LONDON (New Scientist). – If you think that breakfast is the most important day in the nutritional sense, you may have to think again … if you have enough fuel in your brain and you can get some excellent desayunos sorpresa or desayunos a domicilio.

What are the Breakfast Delivery?

“Take a good breakfast is the most important meal of the day.” If there is a message about the diet that generations of mothers have taught their children is this. The council has always been equally clear: give your children the right food at breakfast and they can concentrate all morning. Feed them little and will struggle to stay awake in class.

However, this advice has begun to be questioned. As we know more about how the body and brain regulate sugars, the idea that breakfast is always the best way to start the day is increasingly questioned. In fact, eating breakfast can sometimes be worse for mental and physical performance than going hungry.

Of the many nutrients from your diet, the brain can use only one fuel, glucose, which the body converts carbohydrates from food. Unfortunately, says Leigh Gibson, biopsychologist Roehampton University in London, this simple fact has led to several myths.

One is what Gibson calls the “myth of the sugar” it works like this: after eating a meal with high-carbohydrate or sweet snack, the blood sugar level rises rapidly, sending a large amount of glucose brain. This will provide a temporary boost of power but is quickly followed by a drop of sugar and mental energy.
Demolishing myths

In a recent article published in the Journal of the British Nutrition Foundation, Gibson reviewed 25 years of research on the effects of glucose in the brain. He concluded that while the brain certainly works with glucose, the idea that eating sugary foods increases the mental ability is, at best, an oversimplification.

The sugar-rush myth originated in what is known as the oral test glucose tolerance that measures glucose levels in people who have fasted overnight which is given a very sweet drink. This test, which is designed to help diagnose diabetes, causes a rapid spike in blood glucose, often followed by a compensatory fall.

Food for thought

In the real world, however, no pure glucose ingested and most people very well regulates the levels of the same blood. Even when consumed a meal loaded with carbohydrates, it takes time for them to become a peak glucose and blood glucose after a meal, is rare.

Unless you have type 1 diabetes, an elevated blood sugar causes the pancreas to secrete insulin. The liver responds to insulin to convert excess glucose to starch called glycogen stores for future use.

When glucose levels drop again, the liver converts stored glycogen into glucose which is released into the bloodstream as needed. When working properly, this regulatory system controls blood glucose levels very closely so that carbohydrate intake is not directly linked to the liver releases into the bloodstream.

There is also a second control point between the carbohydrates in the foods eaten and glucose to the brain. An investigation of the mid-90 revealed the vital role of brain cells called astrocytes, which store glucose as glycogen and act as buffers between glucose in blood and fluid that nourishes the brain.

Astrocytes normally maintain glucose levels in the fluid in only 20 to 30% of the levels in blood. If the neurons need more, take it from surrounding astrocytes. If not need more, glycogen is stored. Only after a long period of mental activity demands, brain astrocytes and then reduces blood glucose, to the point where you need food again. More info at our website.
